GP to sponsor Bangladesh's Tour to Zimbabwe

Grameenphone Ltd. will be the Title sponsor of the Bangladesh –Zimbabwe ODI series which is going be held at Zimbabwe. This was announced at a press conference at the Grameenphone head office in Gulshan.

Grameenphone is the first Bangladeshi company to sponsor an overseas cricket series. The Bangladesh's Tour to Zimbabwe 2009 will comprise of the five One Day International (ODI) matches. The ODI series has been titled the “Grameenphone Cup.”

The first match will take place on August 9, 2009 and the fifth match will be held on August 18, 2009. All the matches will be held at the Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

Ms. Rubaba Dowla, Chief Communications Officer, and Mr. Ferdousur Rahman, AGM, Market Communication, of Grameenphone, were present at the press conference.

The sponsorship is valued at around BDT 5 million and includes full Title rights, prize money and rights to branding the stadium, and other communications. Grameenphone will also provide the Man of the Match and the Man of the Series prizes.

Grameenphone has been a patron of sports since its inception. It has been the official sponsor for the National Cricket Team since 2003. It is also the official sponsor for the GP-BCB National Cricket Academy, housed at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, since 2007. The company has till date sponsored five cricket series played in Bangladesh against major cricket playing nations, namely England, Sri Lanka, Australia and India.
