Abahani uphold winning run

Abahani Limited maintained their winning run in the Citycell Bangladesh League when the defending champions edged Muktijoddha Sangsad 1-0 on Saturday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

The league resumed after a one month and 11-day break with Sheikh Russel also winning away in Chittagong.

Striker Enamul Haque, who scored four goals for Bangladesh in the recently concluded Bangabandhu SAFF Championship in Dhaka, scored the all important goal for Abahani, who recorded their fourth win in as many matches.

The national striker headed in a left-flank cross from Ghanaian forward Sheriff Deen Mohammad in the 17th minute as the Sky-Blues reached top of the table with maximum 12 points.

Muktijoddha remained bottom of the 13-team table after losing all four games.

At the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong, Russel beat hosts Chittagong Abahani 2-0.

Togo’s striker Hafan Albarka netted the first goal for the tourists after 17 minutes while Moroccan forward Samir Omari sealed the victory in 33rd minute. Chittagong Abahani stuck to five points after four rounds.
